On top of floor 13, Block 491B
You know I was thinking. I ran upstairs to the thirteenth floor (the last floor) of my Grandmother’s block and I looked down and around. I could see pedestrians crossing and I was thinking about who was the nameless person beneath the red shirt. It was difficult to discern any personality from where I was, so far away because the man or woman was a mere build-up of colours. Then, behind me, in another block, in a particular flat that I randomly picked, a man looked out of the window for a few seconds and went away. I wondered if he had children or what he was taking a break from. I also saw people crossing the road in untimely rhythm. There was a boy looking out from a window of a passing bus. I wondered if someone saw me on level thirteen and if they had thought about what I was doing or thinking or feeling. They won’t know of course, but from level thirteen I learnt the insignificance of myself and that I was as insignificant as everyone else. But the fact that I could think infinitely, in the shoes of many people at the same time made me feel special at the same time. Totally cliche and apt that I was watching The Great Gatsby yesterday and this quote sums up everything I’ve just described here. In the moment, ‘I was within and without.’ Wowwweee!
